Signs of burning around the socket
Corrective actions
Checked the cable for signs of overheating in the distribution board for the circuit all looks, 16 amp breaker correctly size, cable size correct
Conclusion, faulty electrical charge are used this caused the overheating and socket

issue:
No power in the top half of the house three electricians before me I tried to solve the problem.
Observations:
Because of multiple flooring on the top floor attic space it was agreed with the client not practical to lift the flooring to find the issue. This left one option to go through the ceiling of the floor below to try and find the issue.
Corrective actions:
1. Probable contributing factor to cause of burnt cable was a high impedance because of no ground cable in the distribution board this will need to be rectified using a earthing rod reading was 1120 ohms client witness test
2. In an effort to try and find the supply cable to the circuit that was not functioning I drilled access holes in several parts of the ceiling these holes could also be used to pull in a new circuit if we could not resolve the fault on the original circuit.
3. The wiring standard observed via the access holes was not good practice connections in boxes that could not be accessed for maintenance or fault finding this will have to be rectified.
4. The feed for the cable in fault could not be located without more intrusive/destructive work. It was agreed with the client to stop as we now had access to all cables feeding the socket outlets and light and we would re-feed the circuit with a new supply from the distribution board and at the same time pulling a second supply to feed the washer dryer. A date has been agreed to return and started work 2022-03-19 06:32:30 75 11/2/2022

Issue:
All sockets except for one next to distribution board failed residual current test:
Corrective actions:
1. Socket next to distribution board had outgoing ground cable removed this was the disguise and ground fault in the rest of the circuit.
Connected outgoing ground cable and then went on to disconnect all main wiring nodes until fault isolated in spare bedroom top of house.
Isolated Circuit leg ground cable, all other sockets with ground past residual current test client witnessed.
2. Kitchen Circuit had lost ground connection and due to the construction of house it would have taken excessive amount of destructive and disruptive work to find the break in the ground cable. Advice to client was to feed a ground cable from the distribution board to the kitchen.
After adding the ground cable this resolved the issues in the kitchen.
All sockets with ground cables including in the outside shed passed over voltage and residual current tests client witnessed.

Nuisance tripping on circuit serving kitchen downstairs and outside shed.
Corrective actions:
Circuit feeding shed was encased in concrete and could not be access, so had to disconnect circuit in socket next to back door.
After disconnecting circuit and reenergised distribution board nuisance tripping had stopped.
Observations:
Tested circuit and found residual current device did not trip in the required 30 mA also found a value of 158ohms
Recommendations:
The above results indicate an issue with the earthing system that needs to be resolved and was the possible contributing factor of the oversupply of current to the shed that caused the cable to short circuit.
The fault needs to be rectified as soon as possible as it forms part of the protection for the property and persons.
The distribution board is also 30 years and needs to be updated 2021-12-15 06:20:29 10 2021-12-14 07:42:22 9 13/12/2021
